“Today the system failed us”

Los Angeles Mayor Bradley speaking after four white officers were acquitted in the beating of Rodney King.
April 29, 1992

THE FORGOTTEN STORY

Knowledge Meets Curiosity

Not too long ago, on the second day of April in 1992, four white police officers were acquitted after having been prosecuted for the assault of an unarmed black male named Rodney King. What followed shortly after would remain in the conscience of american society for decades and even generation to come,  a massive event of destruction and violence that would go down as perhaps the most volatile moment in domestic sociopolitical U.S. history. This event would come to be known as the infamous Los Angeles Riots.

The riots are still spoken of today with loads of emphasis placed on the destruction of Los Angeles, the assault on Rodney King, and the racially charged atmosphere between whites and blacks and how that atmosphere still exists twenty-five years later, few people know of or speak about the riot's fusillade on an area known as Korea Town, the epicenter of the Korean populace of Los Angeles. The attack upon the Korean community was both malevolent and malicious, but more remarkable was the lack of government assistance to Korea Town and the improvised defense of the area by the Korean residents.
